Chivas Guadalajara are used to playing in the US in the actual XXI century. The last match held yesterday in Chicago to kick off the 2019 International Champions Cup was action-packed and, as usual, the ‘Rebaño’ gave all their support to the players from the stands.
Back in 2006, during the Chivas’ centenary the two Special Ones Football Clubs Celtic FC and Chivas Guadalajara squared off in Newy York in a goalless draw friendly match. That was the second one for the Hoops in a ten-day pre-season tour in America, where Chivas celebtrated their centenary year at New Jersey’s Giants Stadium. The Glasgow side had also played in Poland in the previous week when Wisla Krakow club arranged a centenary celebration just like Chivas did in New York, under an incredible support.
For the Scottish club and specially the Irish population living in and around the Big Apple, thousands of Hoops shirts and Celtic flags were visible in the sloping stands of the impressive Giants Stadium.
Thirteen years later, Chivas Guadalajara kicked off the 2019 International Champions Cup facing AC Fiorentina at the SeatGeek Stadium in Illinois. The Mexican side lined up recent signings such as Rodríguez, Alanís, Peralta and Briseño. Chivas featured also their new jersey prior to the 2019 Apertura tournament.
For this 2019 match in the US, Chivas received a warm welcome from their supporters who made them feel like home in Chicago, singing and cheering the flock during their stay in American soil. The Special One Football Club Chivas will played two more clashes in the most important tournament this summer, the International Champions Cup.
