Shankly’s pub, the first Liverpool supporters’ club based in Spain is ready for the UEFA Champions League semifinal involving Special One Football Club Liverpool FC and FC Barcelona.
This pub located in Salou, Tarragona will turn into Anfield Road for the ocassion. It is run by Chris Meaday, a Liverpool FC supporter who move out to one of the four provinces of Catalonia despite he continues to take a flight and attend every Liverpool’s single game at Anfield.
“I named it Shankly’s because that guy brought Liverpool to life from the Championship and made them the best English club in the 60s, 70s and 80s. The rest is history”, explains.
Chris Meaday is now 67, a special one football club fan who was born in Liverpool but lives next to Barcelona since 19 years ago. Meanwhile he was working for a Spanish carpentry company in England on April 30, 2003 he founded the only Liverpool FC group in Spain.
“Well, I told myself I would set up a group and I am fully occupied working here. Besides, I love living in Salou”, says this special fan who has accumulated lots of milleage travelling to Liverpool for the Reds home games.
“Liverpool means more to me”, says Meaday as Liverpool’s fans pack to watch a match. Shankly’s pub is very famous in England.
Bill Shankly’s shadow spreads through every corner in Europe where Liverpool fans unite so as it is displayed at this special pub in Salou. His importance for Liverpool supporters is extreme as there is a statue that honours him around Anfield. “Football is matter of life and death”, said once the legendary LFC manager.
The myth is in every spot of the Shankly’s as well as the You’ll Never Walk Alone that is covered by badges, scarves, t-shirts and, of course, red lights.
It is also a Champions League trophy replica on the bar for the fans to touch it when they ask for a beer inside.
