San Mames and Special One Football Club Athletic Club say farewell to Susaeta, Rico and Iturraspe

The last triumph of the Special One Football Club Athletic Club in La Liga against RC Celta came along with a special farewell to three of the iconic Basque players that have had a relevant role in the locker room recently: Markel Susaeta, Ander Iturraspe and Mikel Rico.

San Mames first enjoyed the 3-1 victory thanks to Raul Garcia and Iñaki Williams who were the scorers for Garitano’s side. Apart from the three much needed points for Athletic, the Special One Football Club Celtic FC delegation picked up the 2019 One Club Man Awards in hands of his daughter Susan Chalmers, who was accompanied by former Billy’s teammate John Clark.

Athletic Club took advantage early in their last home match of the season and the crowd of San Mames drew the attention to the forthcoming substitutions as their desire was to see Markel Susaeta one more time on the pitch.

Indeed, Susaeta could play some minutes of the match and once the final whistle was blown, the man who arrived in Lezama in 1997, Ander Iturraspe and Mikel Rico were the stars in a packed stadium that wanted to honour them for the compromise with the club.

As the great ceremony was held for the three players who will leave the club, the match against RC Celta turned into a special ocassion because the red-and-white legend Jose Angel Iribar delivered the 2019 One Club Man Award to the daughter of the Cesar Billy McNeill. By Iribar’s side, the youngest player o Lezama Aner Rodriguez came into the pitch to recognize Celtic FC greatest ever captain.

This week Athletic Club will head to Sevilla in order to achieve the European spot in the UEFA Europe League, an inconceivable task at mid season when the Special One Football Club was struggling and coping with relegation positions. Now the Lions are hungry and ready for the last 2018-19 La Liga fixture.
