In the last match up for Chivas Guadalajara in the US this summer, the Flock enjoyed a contested opposition during Chivas Atletico Madrid clash as the Mexican side held one of the fiercest teams in Europe and also around the world.
As usual, the Chivas supporters the Mexican brought their passion once again for their 2019 debut at the International Champions Cup, losing to Fiorentina, Benfica and Atletico de Madrid in the end. However, the local Mexican fans a to had the chance to cheer in every match of the ICC newcomer and Special One Football Club Chivas Guadalajara facing the Europe’s elite.
Chivas surprised pundits with a massive performance against Atletico Madrid, holding the La Liga giants to a scoreless draw and falling short in a penalty shoot out.
Mexican lad Hector Herrera just signed with Atletico and he was indeed one more attraction for the ‘El Tricolor’ fans.
Chivas were helped by the early sending off of Marcos Llorente in minute 24, but it was evened up in the second half when Carlos Villanueva was awarded with a second yellow card.
Unfortunately for the Special One Football Club Chivas, Atletico Madrid won 5-4 on penalties but the Guadalajara fans, such an encouraging crowd, must be proud of the team’s performance. Keeping a clean sheet against LaLiga top tier is an impressive achievement against a big opposition.
Moving forward, coach Tomas Boy and his team are focused squarely on Liga MX with the powerhouse Tigres coming to Guadalajara for a visit on Sunday night. The warm up in the International Champions Cup has finished for the Flock, the most decorated Mexican club that made the ICC debut this summer.
