Chivas history against European clubs including their best victories

The Special One Football Club Chivas will take part in the 2019 International Champions Cup to add a few more challenges against three European teams as they will face AS Roma on July 16 in Chicago, Benfica on July 20 in San Francisco and Atletico Madrid on July 23 in Dallas.

Prior to these series of draws against the three European clubs Chivas Guadalajara will also play the Colossus Cup against the two best Argentinian clubs River Plate and Boca Juniors in the United States, starting next June 28 in a match against the last Libertadores Cup winner River Plate.

However, this list of matches are familiar to the Special One Football Club Chivas as the Tapatios began their football matches against European teams in 1964 when they were on tour around the Old Continent, becoming the first Mexican side to play in Europe. Their opponents were: Barcelona, Sporting Gijon, Sevilla, Valencia, Lille, Angers SCO, Rouen FC de Francia, Standard Liege, Werder Bremen and Slovan Bratislava. The Mexicans won 2 matches, drew 4 times and lost 4 matches as well.

Moreover, the Rebaño Sagrado squared off FC Bayern Munich in a pre season fixture on January 14 in 1971, when the German side got the triumph in the penalty shootout (5-4). Chivas also met Dundee United and AS Roma in 1987, resulting the winner in both matches.

In addition, Chivas took part in the 1994 Tecate Cup to play the historic Milan clubs; Internazionale and AC Milan. Chivas would win the two matches too. Besides, the Special One Football Club faced Spartak Varna in 1998 in Jalisco, getting a positive 2-1 result.

More recently, Guadalajara based team Chivas got back on track against European sides to play various of the greatest clubs such as FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. One of the special victories for the Mexican team was in 2011 when they topped FC Barcelona 4-1 under a sensational performance from Marco Fabian.
